Hi there! It's Natalia from Piece N Quilt. Today I get to share this fun baby quilt tutorial. I wanted to make a quilt that was simple yet had a little spunk to it. So I've created this Wonky Baby quilt. I've also created tutorials over on my blog for those coordinating bumpers and that darling dust ruffle. So take a minute and check out my blog for those tutorials!

2 A Stitch In Color Charm Packs
1 5/8 Yards coordinating grey fabric
1/2 Yard coordinating binding fabric
1 1/2 Yards coordinating backing fabric
Begin by cutting from your grey fabric 56 - 6" squares and 10 - 1"xWOF strips.
From your charm packs cut 52 - 4" circles, I used my Accuquilt Go to cut my circles and it went very fast and simple.
Using the applique technique of your choice {I like to use starch applique}, applique a 4" circle onto 52 of the 6" squares, I tried to make each of the circles off centered so the quilt would have a wonky look.
After you have appliqued the circles you will randomly cut each block on an angle. I cut each block individually so they would all have different angles.
Now take the 1" strips of grey fabric and sew those into the block, where you cut the diagonal line. Sew the block back together. You will end up with 52 blocks that look like the one above and then 4 plain grey blocks.
Sew the blocks together, randomly, 7 blocks by 8 blocks.
Quilt, bind and enjoy!

1- 38"x44" baby quilt.

I love it Natalia. The fabrics and the design are perfect for a modern baby quilt. Thanks for sharing.
Fabulous! Especially with Malka's fabric!!
Such a gorgeous quilt - I love your quilting too!
SWEET! LOVE this IDEA!!!!!
This is a great quilt! I wonder what exact grey you're using for the background though. It's a perfect match, and if I try to make this, I'd like to know what works best.
(I don't know what's up with blogger's word verification lately but every time I run into it, it makes me try twenty different words before it'll agree that I've managed to type it in properly. And then ultimately it'll only work if I use a google id rather than my openID leading to my blog. SO MUCH HATE.) (Ahem. Anyway...)
Somthing fun and different to try!! Thanks a bunch!
I LOVE THIS QUILT. Sorry to shout, but it is sooo cute. I have to try it.
What a fun, wonky, cute baby quilt! Thanks for sharing Natalia.

Great job Natalia! It is too cute. (No less than I expect from you!)
Love it! Just wondering what size block do you size to after inserting the 1" strip??
Thanks....
How simply SIMPLE! I love it! And what a great design to use up scraps too.

How lovely ! Brayden is going to be a lucky little man !
To answer a few questions:
The grey used in the quilt is the grey in the "A Stitch in Color" collection.
Your quilt blocks, if using a 1/4" seam allowance when adding the strip should stay at 6".
Happy sewing! :)
Those are cute; think I'm going to try some with my Kaffe Fassett stash!!
i love this idea. thanks :)
As always Natalia, your Wonky Baby Quilt is 'spot on'!
Okay, so I'm working on making this quilt, which I love. I got all the way to the part where the blocks are cut apart and I'm trying to sew the strip in the middle. I am having trouble getting the block to line back up when I go to sew the second half back on. Any tips or suggestions for how to do this easily? Thanks so much!
I love this pattern! I pinned it on my baby crib quilt board so more people would find the instructions.
If you would rather I didn't, just contact me via the addy posted on the footer of my website and I'll take it right down.

I love this quilt. It became part of my inspiration for pillows for some twins.
I am also pretty sure that I am going to be making it as a NICU donation quilt later this year.
