Addison Hostess Apron by Twee ✁cut to pieces

The Addison Hostess Apron
My entry for the Moda Sliced Competition - Apron Challenge.
I've used a number of different construction techniques to create the perfect hostess apron. Greet your guests in style!
Fabrics include Reunion by Sweetwater, La Petite Ecole by French General and Modern Workshop by Liesly Gibson for Oliver + S
This bib apron uses honeycomb smocking made with perle embroidery floss, a gathered waist and a double apron skirt complete with pockets lined with tape measure twill tape.

Two way Apron sideways by lovefrombeth

A little apron for you and sewing machine to share!
I wanted to design a ‘desk apron’ to keep bits and bobs to hand but wanted it to be more exciting than a simple pocket with sections. By making it wearable too I could indulge in bows and frills and give it some character!
While you are using your machine the apron skirt will rest on your lap so your bits and bobs are just where you need them.
The pocket, which is hidden behind the bow, has sections for different tools and notions.
When you are working away from your machine, hand sewing or cutting, you can wear it as you would a normal apron. The table section folds behind the skirt and the big bow at the front continues round to tie at the back. There is a wide loop under the skirt to hold the ties out of the way when they are not needed.
The measuring tape is appliqued, with embroidery floss, to the table section. It is positioned at the front so that it can be used for a quick measurement check when sewing. Handy!

The apron uses 3 fabrics from separate ranges. The feature fabric is from the Punctuation range by American Jane. The lining print is from the circa 1934 range by Cosmo Cricket and the accent fabric is from Urban Cowgirl by Urban Chiks

Quilt Story's Apron

Quilt Story's entry for Moda's Sliced Contest: Aprons.
This was such a fun project to create!! The bib or bodice on this apron is fit for a woman! I've added lots of details with trims, bows, ruffles and a scallop on the bottom. The fabric lines used are mostly Ruby and Sophie. with some Bliss. I used fat quarter cuts throughout, and yardage on longer pieces.
On the inside of the bodice is a secret little pocket for your phone! I love this and made it custom for me, so hopefully you find this useful too! :) I always have my phone on me, plus having it closer to me on my chest also makes it so I can use my headphones to listen to music while I craft and clean.
I added a separate "tool belt" to use specifically when I'm crafting. It will conveniently fit all of your tools, rotary cutters, tape measures. quilting pens, etc.. It coordinates and easily ties over top of the existing apron. I love the option of using it when I need it and taking it off when I'm done.
You will notice on the skirt of the apron a pocket with the super sweetest little deer resting on a quilt! :) I love to embroider in my free time and was so excited that we were asked to incorporate embroidery floss on this project.
Finally I took a measuring tape and turned it into a rosette! I added some fabric bits here and there and I think it turned out sweet :) It is removable with a pin on the back.
I hope you like my apron, it was so much fun to make! And thanks to my darling niece for modeling!

Which one is your favorite?

Check back on Sunday to find out who will be SLICED and who will continue on to the Championship round... Week 3!

I also love the Quilt Story one - the iPod pocket is genius!! All of the entries are wonderful, though!! I don't envy the job of the judges!

Cut to Pieces is adorable, but the Quilt Story apron is genius. Love the pocket for the iPod.

Cynthia said...

It's a tough choice because they are all wonderful! I will say the Addison Hostess Apron, because she has some detail that is varied and original.

They are all adorable but I do like the Addison Hostess Apron

Beverly Pennington said...

All so smart and sweet, but the Quilt story one is the one I would use over and over. Love that the sewing apron comes off so you can use it for other things.

Two Way Apron by Love From Beth! What a clever idea!

Kelly said...

I LOVE the Addison apron Angela made! It's classic but with amazing details! It looks store bought!

Sam said...

I love the two-sided apron. I think I may need to make something like this for my machine!

Frankie said...

I love the Quilt Story apron -- so cute!

KathiP said...

Beth's for sure. The two way. so cute and what a great idea for under the machine.

Tiffany said...

The hostess apron is by far the cutest I've ever seen anywhere. So creative and sassy! The others had great ideas and neat designs but I'm loving Angela's.

Lindsay Conner said...

They are all so cute! I really love the Addison Hostess Apron--that fabric texture is so cute and classy!

Hey Cut to Pieces -- can I buy that Addison apron when this round is over? I have been wanting to make an apron, but now I just want to have that one instead. :) Beautiful!

Loving the Addison one, great variety of sewing techniques on it, but not too fussy and frilly

♥♥♥The Quilt Story♥♥♥
Honest opinions here. TQS is absolutely adorable. The fabric choices, the embroidery, iPhone pocket, scalloped trim, come-on, it's fantastic. They used all the Sliced requirements in an "honest" way. TQS is by far my choice. Addison Hostess is nice but bit to formal for me unless I was catering. And the Two Way, although a good idea in theory completely impractical. Who is going to keep moving their machine off and on to use an apron?

Unknown said...

I love the Quilt Story, the deer is mega presh!

Pup Pup said...

I agree with Amy I believe Beth's is a bit of a stretch. You would never share your apron with your machine. Beth's is cute but the Quilt Story is my super duper fave

LillyBelle Threads said...

Wow, tough crowd!

Beth - I was blown away by your lap top cover, I thought your pin cushion idea was well thought out and incredibly useful. And I love your apron idea.

I love the idea of having pockets in front of my machine - how incredibly handy! And the appliqued measuring tape RIGHT in front of my machine? Brilliant!!!

And all three of your products have been beautifully finished.

Though, I was disappointed not to be selected to compete in the final four, seeing your projects and talent have been a really treat. Best of luck, I am rooting for you all the way from the west coast of Canada and I hope to see more projects from you.

Grace said...

Love from Beth's apron was my fave!

Jody said...

Thought the second apron was the best one. The first one didn't look like I would ever be able to wear it. Too skinny. Too stuffy. Less usable. The third one was nice, but I adored the second one. I love the fabric choices, too! And the fact that I could use it with my machine as well (despite the naysayers who say they wouldn't, I know that I would!) Anyways. Very cute! Good work by everyone! #2 FTW!

Anita said...

What great aprons! Sooo glad I'm not a judge :)

Amy said...

I love the details that Quilt Story put into their apron. She put a lot of time into her design.

Cherie said...

I LOVE the addison apron! The beauty is in the details--the smocking, gathering, etc. It would be perfect for having friends over to watch Mad Men!

Cindy said...

I love the quilt story apron with the hidden pocket for my phone. Plus, it is so pretty with all the different fabrics and ruffles, and embroidery.

L2L said...

My favorite, hands down is LovefromBeth!!! It is so practical and still very eye pleasing!!!! Hope she doesn't get sliced next week!!!

Jody Herbert said...

I love the Quilt Story apron. Just beautiful, practical and easy to wear. Love the tool belt that can be removed and the ipod/phone pocket too. Very clever and sweet design and such a cute embroidery on it too.

Mel said...

I have to say...I listen to my phone/mp3 player when I'm cleaning, also. And I'm always having to stuff it in the back pocket of jeans or shorts. Not everything HAS a back pocket, and then, too, I spend the whole time fighting with keeping my earbuds straight!

That inside pocket is INGENIOUS! And the fact that it's on the bodice rather than the skirt so no more soaking down my DROID while washing dishes! YAY!

All the aprons are amazing. And I'll probably make my version of the bottom two with my own fabric choices. Love the dual duty aspect they both offer.

great ideas ladies!

I like the detail on the first one and the second one is versatile. But I think Quilt Story wins my vote.

'Love from Beth x' wins this one hands down. It is so cute, and functional. I'd buy this pattern! An apron for hand sewing is the best idea!

I love Quilt Story's Apron! It's very beautiful and has wonderful details and is also very practical!

Rachel said...

While *I* love all three projects and adore certain elements of each one...If I had to choose based on rules/guidelines given, design and technique, I would definitely choose the first one.

Chris {frecklemama} said...

Oh no! Tough choice! They are all wonderful. I would have to say Angela's is my favorite because I've always loved Honeycomb smocking and the use of it here to formalize the look of the apron is just right.

Good luck to all!

Debra Lee said...

The Hostess is my favorite. Stillcan wear it and loook dresses up!

Leanne said...

I am so impressed with all of the candidates and their work in this challenge, from the auditions to now. I love all three of these aprons, and I think that the judges will have a difficult time having to make a choice.

randi--i have to say said...

three great aprons for sure! but i do favor angela's apron (cut to pieces).

Rachel said...

I love them all - what great details! but my absolute fave is Angela's hostess apron. The smocking and the French General fabric got me. I think it would be the most practical and least fussy, which is more to my taste.

Great job ladies!

Jan said...

I love Quilt Story's Apron!

Danny said...

I like the look of the Cut to Pieces one, but I like the features of the Quilt Story one. I think if I was in the market to purchase an apron, I would go with the Quilt Story apron.

Anne said...

Addison Hostess Apron is just so darn classy! Ruffles are cute, but Cut to Piece's apron has modern style and grace!

Sunnybec said...

My favourite is Cut to Pieces. I like that when you are having a party you can split your time between the kitchen and your guests but still look stylish and dressed up... Love it!! I love the others too, three very talented ladies.

jednoiglec said...

I don't have favorite this time, because all are gorgeous and each one is different. The judges have got tough choice!

Mary Anne said...

I love the Addison Hostess Apron - so classy - it makes me think of a tuxedo! The smocking detail is very unique and adds a lovely dimension. I'm glad that I'm not a judge...it will be a touch decision!

I'm going with what I'd wear and it's Quilt Story. The second one is nice and rather clever; but, it'd never stay on me. The first one is nice too; but, it's not really my style. So, Quilt Story is the winner hands down. At least, for me it is. :-)

Jennifer @ Ellison Lane Quilts said...

What great aprons! They are all really cute but I think I like the second one the best- the half apron. Hard to choose though because Angela's smocking is super cute!

Jennifer said...

it's a tough call between the addison and the two-way apron. i think that i would be more likely to use the two-way apron with my machine, but i love the look of the addison apron-- it's like an apron tuxedo.

Heather said...

This is some tough competition, I love them all, my favorite is the two way apron, it is something I would wear and use a lot.

April said...

I like the addison hostess.

Rachelle said...

I really like all of them, but I think the versatility of Quilt Story just edges out the others for me.

WandaFish said...

Wow, these are 3 amazing entries with such well thought out details - the judges will have a difficult choice!
I love all of them but I think I would probably get most use from Angela's gorgeous hostess apron :)

Tricia said...

It was really hard to decide, but I will have to go with Cut To Pieces

Lindsay said...

All great choices. I love the lovefrombeth one the best. I love the ruffle accents and the simplicity of it.

All 3 are lovely, and since I don't know any of the creators personally... I can say that the last one by Quilt Story is more my personal style. It's very versatile and I love the deer! Darling in every way!

I love the Quilt Story apron. They are all great but this one is my favorite. Cathe

Jennifer said...

I must admit that I don't have a favorite. They are all superb in their own rights!

However, I feel the need to say that I'm quite disappointed with the tone of some of these comments. Usually, our virtual quilting community is helpful, kind, compassionate, and supportive. There is a way to critique someone's work without being harsh or unkind about it.

Some of you folks have failed to do so. These ladies have put *so much* effort into their creations and your words are down right hurtful! I usually am a " in the back ground" kind-of person, but I felt the need to speak out about this.

Diane said...

The Addison apron is perfect! THe smocking is such a elegant touch and the two layers is a beautiful look.

Wendy said...

I can't choose!! I love all three of these aprons, all are beautifully designed, so carefully made and so very, very different from each other. I actually want all three! please ladies...? ;0)
