A fun bench pillow made from a mini charm pack and 1 yard of fabric.
One pack of mini charms OR one charm pack, quartered
½ yard for background fabric
½ yard for pillow backing fabric
One 14” x 28” pillow form
Cutting Directions:
From background fabric:
- 3 strips 1 ½” wide and 28 ½” long
- 2 strips 2” wide and 28 ½” long
- 2 strips 2 ½” by the width of fabric. Sub-cut these into 40 1 ½” x 2 ½” pieces
From pillow backing fabric:
- One piece 14 ½” x 28 ½”
Sew a 2 ½” x 1 ½” rectangle to one side of 36 mini charms. Press seams towards the charms.
Arrange mini charms in a pleasing grid, 9 charms across and 4 charms down.
Sew the charms plus rectangles together into 9-charm long rows, and you’ll make 4 rows. Press seams towards the charms.
Sew a background rectangle to the right and left sides of your rows.
Sew the 1 1/2″ wide strips between the rows, pressing towards the strips as you sew.
Sew the 2” strips at the top and bottom of the piece. Press towards the strips.
With right sides pinned together, sew the pieced front to the pillow back. Start just before the corner on a short side, and sew around the perimeter of the pillow cover, stopping just after your last corner. Back-stitch your start and stop points.
Turn the pillow case right side out and tuck the pillow form into the pillow.
Slip stitch the opening closed, and enjoy! As an alternative, you could put a piece of flannel behind your pillow front and quilt it before finishing the pillow (after step 6 above).
One 14″ x 28″ bench pillow, perfect for a porch swing!

CUTE! pillow, BUT no pictures 🙁 of the process in the directions?
So sorry! I made it before I even considered writing the pattern. I do have an extra row that I could photograph. If you have any questions during construction, feel free to contact me!
I’ve added a couple of photos for you – hope it helps! 🙂
This is cute. I am going to give it a try. It would be nice to double the pattern and make a fun spotty blankie for a little one.
Cute design
Aren’t precuts a blast?!!
I have a Moda mini charm pack that was given to me FREE at the last Houston International Quilt Show and have been holding on to it for just the right project! Thanks for sharing 😀
I love the mini charms and am always looking for ways to use them. This pillow is perfect and will look very nice in the sun room this summer. Many thanks.
