ABC Birthday Quilt-Along

This year the Moda Bake Shop turns seven! We are celebrating with a quilt-along and some fun prizes along the way.

We invite you to quilt along with us, using the Spell It with Fabric! letter patterns to create your own unique quilt. Do you have a favorite phrase or quote? This is the perfect time to commemorate it in fabric.

The patterns for the letters have been collected and published in a wonderful mini booklet, which is available through your favorite quilt fabric retailer. You can also find links to the individual patterns via the {Spell It With Fabric} Pinterest board. To get started, you will need a jelly roll and some background fabric.

Our Chefs will provide filler block tutorials along the way to go with the letter blocks and we will check in periodically to share how everyone’s quilts are coming along.  There is no end date on this quiltalong. Sew it up quickly or take your time!

Sewing along with us are:

Amanda Castor  {materialgirlquilts | blog:}
Debora Exum {studiodragonflyquilts |}
Jemima Flendt {tiedwitharibbonquilts  |}
Jenn Nevitt {mommysew |}
Lisa Calle   {vintagemodernquilts  |}

Samantha Olsen {samanthaleeolsen}
Sharla Krenzel {thistlethicketstudio |}

    This sounds like fun, but then everything I find at the Bake Shop sounds like fun. Seven years? Doesn’t seem possible, but I’m a major fan of anything Moda so on with the fun.

  2. Barb says:

    Looking forward to the creative inspiration – especially if the examples shown are an indication of the fun to come 🙂

    I might want to try this out. Sounds fun! is there a link to a place where the letter patterns are? I am not on Pinterest and have no desire to be, so I would like to find the letters somewhere else.

  6. Mary Andra says:

    I’m in for sure.

    I can’t find the pattern!

  8. Sue says:

    Where to find the pattern/letters?

    You can find links to each individual letter at this link

    It takes a little time but I printed off each letter pattern so I”m ready to go!

  10. Dee says:

    Is there anywhere that I can print all letters at once? Too time consuming on Pinterest

  11. Donna says:

    This will be a fun sew-along, I saved all the letter blocks from a few years ago. Now I have to find some funky saying.

  12. Diane E. says:

    I just love this idea. Can’t wait to start.

  13. judireissdi says:

    When is this starting?

  14. BONNIE THIEM says:

    I love the alphabet idea. I have managed to obtain all the letters but K and X. I have been through every link that works (some links give me an error message). Can you help please?

  15. Molly Pitts says:

    A couple of the links on pinterest are broken. The letters X and W were a no go. Malka’s letter W is blocked as a pornography site and X from Blackbird Designs is lost in space somewhere. Their blog is super un-user friendly to search. I would love to complete my alphabet.

  16. Cheryl says:

    Letter X is on Blackbird Designs. Type in “Letter X from Moda” in their search engine and it will take you there. About halfway down you will find the link.

    • BONNIE THIEM says:

      Thanks, Cheryl. I did as you suggested but I went through the whole page under “Letter X from Moda” that popped up when I entered it. I found nothing that even looked like a Letter X. I went through each one listed there. I appreciate your suggestion. Have a blessed day.

    What a wonderful way to customize my own quilts. Not only that but I can have so many gifts on hand. Kinda like those people that keep thank you and birthday cards on hand only WAY bigger and better! just add the letter of the receiving to the quilt and Vioala! Totally customized for them. Or make ’em little pillows, wall hangings, or even framed gifts! Very cool.

    Just wondering about the backing requirements for the original Spell it with Moda quilt – I downloaded the sheet with the info and it says you only need 2 yards but I think for a 59×68 quilt it would be closer to 4yds?There may have been an updated version released since then but I couldn’t find it….thanks!

    • linda mueller says:

      I just looked at that too now ! Wonder if they meant 2-2 yard pieces? I haven’t made it quilt yet so not sure if there were corrections ! Good question! Maybe someone from MODA will answer !
