Bake Shop Basics: Speedy Four-Patches

Hello! This is a mini tutorial for speedy four-patches. This method can be used for any sized squares. For this mini tutorial, I have used charm squares.

STARTING SQUARE PRE-CUT 4-PATCH SIZE YIELD PER PKG
2½” Moda Candy 1½” (21) 4-patches
5″ Charm Pack 4½” (21) 4-patches
10″ Layer Cake® 9½” (21) 4-patches

2 Moda Candy, Charm Pack, or Layer Cake® squares

*ingredients listed make 2 four-patch blocks

Place the fabric squares right sides together. Sew a ¼” seam along two opposite sides.

Cut in half  (at 1¼” for Moda candy squares, 2½” for charm squares, 5″ for Layer Cake® squares)

Press to the dark side.

Cut in half again on the opposite direction.

Pin sets together and sew. Press.

Square up 4-patches to unfinished sizes listed.

  1. After the first cut, Couldn’t you just turn and restack, then sew Opposite 2 sides, and cut in half for the 4 square.

      Couldn’t you use a jelly roll ? sew down the strip and cut in 2.5 sq. turn and sew as many as you need?

        Yes, but this is for if you didn’t have a jelly roll and only had squares. 🙂
