We are looking for some new Chefs! If you have ideas for using precuts – sewing or quilting – we’d love to hear from you. Click through for some questions and answers about applying to become a Moda Bake Shop Chef and then fill out the new Chef application {here}.These are the most frequently asked questions about becoming a Chef. If you have another question, post in the comments or email directly to modabakeshop {at} unitednotions.com

Q: Are you hiring pattern testers?

A: The projects featured on the Moda Bake Shop are original designs by our Chefs. They design and sew each project themselves so we do not use pattern testers or sample sewers.

Q: Do you tell us what to sew?

A: We typically have a few suggested themes throughout the year, but the Chefs can choose their own project.

Q: Can I submit an idea that I already shared on my blog?

A: Absolutely! The Moda Bake Shop is a great way to share your project with a wider audience.

Q: Where do I get the fabric for my project?

A: We will send it to you! After your project is approved, you will submit a fabric request, choosing from future fabric collections.

Q: What are the benefits to becoming a Chef?

A: You will gain exposure to a wide audience and be able to work with fabric collections that are not yet available in stores. We promote the Chefs through social media platforms and magazine ads. Chefs also have the opportunity to submit a project for future Moda Bake Shop books.

Q: What types of projects are you looking for?

A: Each project must feature at least one type of precut and be your own original design. Whether you are using traditional blocks as your design inspiration or doing something entirely new with precuts, we publish everything from quilts to home decor to apparel and more.

Q: Are there deadlines?

A: Projects are typically published in the month before the fabric is released in stores.

Q: Can I publish the project on my blog and host a giveaway there, too?

A: Absolutely!

Q: Do you sell kits for Moda Bake Shop patterns?

A: We don’t sell any fabric, notions, or kits through the Moda Bake Shop. Moda Fabrics sells fabric and notions to independent retailers and we encourage quilt shops to use Moda Bake Shop patterns for kits and classes.

  1. If I could have more time to quilt, I could create….

  2. Cynthia A Dittman says:

I just finished a lap quilt using a layer cake of Modern Neutrals. However, I also used other non-Moda fabrics as fillers. If you want to see it, I posted it on Instagram under my user name, cnytz51.

We love to hear from you...
