Counting Down the Days

The most wonderful time of the year has arrived! Yes, it is time for our annual Countdown to Christmas! This year our Chefs have worked up an array of blocks in 6″ and 12″ – all made in seasonal red and white fabrics. Over here at the Moda Bake Shop, we will be using fat quarters to make our blocks but use whichever precut works the best for you.

We will have a new block each day until Christmas, plus some bonus blocks and quilt settings to keep you sewing right through the new year. Join us! Be sure to stop by our Moda Bake Shop Facebook group to see what others are sewing.

So is it my understanding that each block will be available in both sizes, either/or or it will change from designer to designer? Thanks!

  8. Mandey Clark says:

So fun! I’m saving all the pdfs for later bc I dont have time to start a new project but really wanna make this (both sides of blocks). Thanks for doing this!

  9. Lori says:

Hi, help me understand, their is an option for every block to make either 6″ or 12″, is that correct? Thank yiu

    • Denise says:

You are correct. All pattern blocks will have both 6″ and 12″ instructions. Your choice as to what size to make. Wish you luck! Happy Holidays! – Denise

  10. Patty Fowl says:

If you start out making a 6 “ block, should you continue with 6” blocks all the way through the block along or does the settings allow a mixture of 6” and 12” blocks?

  11. Marcy Henri says:

Is there a list of fabric requirements?

  12. Darcy Miller says:

I would like to participate but where are the fabric requirements?

    • Lisa Calle says:

We don’t list fabric requirements since this is a just a series of blocks and everyone makes different sizes and/or different number of blocks. However 2 yards background fabric and 10-12 fat quarters should be a great starting point.

  13. Kim Beckett says:

How much fabric is needed of 2 colors and the background (light) fabric?

    • Lisa Calle says:

Fabric will vary widely depending on which block size you make and how many you decide to make, which is why we don’t include it. 2 yards background fabric and 10-12 fat quarters should be a great start though!

  14. Debby Daniels says:

Thank you for details about amount of background required. Trying to think ahead about borders and sashing if I wanted to use same background fabric. Would an additional 2 yards be adequate?

  15. Kimberley Krausch says:

The heading on your page says “December 1 – December 31” for the countdown to Christmas. Is that how many blocks will be offered for this year’s countdown? Thanks for offering these blocks to all.

  16. Shirley J Kennedy says:
