Stars and Stripes Flag Quilt

Hi Bakers!  I am Lisa Jo Girodat of Neverlandstiches and am so excited to be back on Moda Bakeshop to share this new quilt pattern.

I have a confession to make…I love history!  I am such a geek! I love anything to do with history I am addicted to shows such as Vikings, The Last Kingdom, Knight Fall, anything to do with the American Revolution or Civil War.  I listen to the soundtrack from Hamilton at least once a week.  When I saw the beautiful new collection by the French General, Viva Le France I could not resist creating a quilt, which could represent an American Flag. I just love how this collection provides variations of blues and reds so that I could create almost a gradient/worn effect.

Dec 21: Wreath Star

Welcome back Moda Bake Shop bakers!  I’m Jen Daly and I’m thrilled to be here for Day 21 of the Countdown to Christmas!  Today’s recipe was inspired by the beautiful evergreen wreaths that adorn so many front doors during the holiday season—mine included!  My Wreath Star block features Sawtooth Star points that sparkle against a contrasting “wreath” background.  I love it with the two reds, but it would also be beautiful with red star points against a green wreath. Today’s block is called A Special Gift.  To me, it resembles a beautifully wrapped special Christmas gift you may find under a Christmas tree. Continue reading

Dec 6: Reindeer Games

Welcome to Day 6 of the Moda Bake Shop Countdown to Christmas!  My name is Jen Daly and I’m so happy to be here today to share my “Reindeer Games” block—so named by my daughter because of the checkerboard center.  Reindeer Games is a variation on my favorite quilt block, the Sawtooth Star, and I just love how using two different red fabrics gives this block a layered, three-dimensional look.

Dec 2: Grandmother

I am a proud Grandmother of five beautiful grandchildren from 14 to 2 years old.  I added this block to many of their quilts.  I hope that someday they will know the significance of why I placed this block in their quilts.  Each of my children have a Christmas quilt with this block to snuggle under to read their favorite Christmas Eve storybook.

Reverse Applique Christmas Pillow

Hi fellow bakers! This is Mona from Kentucky Whittaker Creations. I’m excited to share a fun project with you today.

I started sewing about two years ago. As my experience grew, I wanted to try new things. I came across reverse applique and decided to give it a try. I made a Kentucky pillow using this technique. I loved the raw edges and since then have made several other pillows using this method.

Today, we’re going to make a Christmas pillow using the reverse-applique, raw-edge technique.
