WEEK 9: ‘Nough Said

This is part 9 of a 13 part quilt-along series.  Find the rest of the posts in this series by clicking on the links at the end of this post.

Welcome to Week 9! We are in the home stretch of this quilt-along and we have four fun blocks to make this week. This block is made up of simple shapes and uses the Easy Corner Triangle method we’ve done in several blocks already. This block is a good opportunity to have some fun and go scrappy. For an alternate look, substitute the 2½″ x 6½″ strips for 2½″ squares and you can make the center square an accent fabric or get crazy and use your background fabric. 😉

This block measures 10½″ square unfinished.

Some notes:

  • Use a scant ¼” seam.
  • Depending on your cutting method, you may have extras each week of common sizes used throughout the quilt. I suggest you label a couple of plastic bags for “2½″ squares” and “2⅞” squares” so you can make use of the extras another week.

{from ‘Nough Said Layer Cake Quilt by Cindy Sharp}

From (6) Layer Cake squares, cut:

  • (16) 5″ squares
  • (4) 2½″ x 6½″ strips
  • (8) 2½″ squares

From accent fabric, cut (32) 3⅛″ squares for Easy Corner Triangles (ECTs)

From background fabric, cut (16) 2½″ squares

Make Easy Corner Triangles (ECTs)

  1. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of each accent square.
  2. Align the accent square in one corner of one 5″ square (take care with directional fabrics by planning out your block layout before you start sewing). Sew on the marked line.
  3.  Trim ¼” away from the seam and press.
  4. Repeat on the opposite corner of the 5″ square.
  5. Trim block to 4½”.

Repeat steps 1 through 5 to make 16 Easy Corner Triangle blocks.

Assemble ‘Nough Said blocks as shown. Make 4.

Unless I’ve done the math wrong, these blocks are 10-1/2″ unfinished.

  2. Jenness Draper says:

My blocks are 10 1\2 unfinished. How are they going to fit in the quilt ?

  3. Jan B says:

I can’t believe these blocks haven’t been tested before publishing. Per the master picture, this should be a 12 inch finished block but per these instructions it’s only a 10 inch finished block.

Don’t be like this, it’s a free QAL..Go somewhere else or make up your own
      if you don’t like it..

  4. nicole says:

Maybe they will send an edited version like they did with that other block…otherwise I’ll just have to draft one the correct size of 12 1/2.

  5. Brenda says:

So I drew this out on graph paper and came up with this for each block:

    Polka dot-(4) 5 1/2 inch squares
    Background (4) 3 inch x 2 1/2 rectangles
    Green (8) 3 inch squares
    Stripe (2) 3 x 2 1/2 rectangle
    Stripe (1) 71/2 x 2 1/2 rectangle

Not super great at math but think this is correct.

many thanks, glad you ALL had this “nough said” worked out before I got started.
Re; delectable flowers, I think I can use up any mistakes in a couple of pillow slips.
It is shaping up into a lovely quilt. Glad I jumped in! Lynette

I looked at the diagram for the completed top and it appears that there is a sashing that goes around this block, making it the required size of 12 1/2 inches unfinished.
