Rocky Mountains is a traditional quilt block. Generally, it would have a light background, and dark “peaks” surrounding a center square. It’s a great block for framing a “fussy cut” of a novelty print. I switched the dark and light fabrics to give us snow-capped mountain peaks on a darker background to go with our holiday theme..
A cloudless sky on a cold winter night is a mixed blessing here in Montana. On the one hand, there’s nothing more beautiful than our Big Sky filled with stars, and if you’re lucky, you’ll see the Northern Lights. On the other hand, without a blanket of clouds to hold in the daytime heat, nighttime temperatures can drop well below zero.
2018 will be a big year for geese in my local quilt guild. Our President’s Challenge theme for the year is “Wingin’ It”, so I’m expecting we’ll see a number of quilts and other projects that feature Flying Geese Units.
