At the Seashore – Breezy Beachy Umbrella

Hi fellow bakers! This is Mona Phelps from Kentucky Whittaker Creations. I’m so excited to be joining in the “At the Seashore” sew-along this summer! I’ll be honest… I’ve never been a huge “beach at the ocean” fan. However, when I was growing up, we spent a lot of time at Lake Cumberland in Kentucky. My family had a small cabin where we spent a few weeks each summer. We would play at the lake, skip rocks, water ski, and more. One thing we often wish we had with us was a big umbrella to give us a little break from the sun.  This was the inspiration for my block “Breezy Beachy Umbrella.” I hope you enjoy making it!

Dec 16: Cup of Cheer

Hi fellow bakers! This is Mona from Kentucky Whittaker Creations. I don’t know about you, but I have loved seeing all of the gorgeous blocks by the talented bakers here at the Bake Shop!

And, of course, you had to share some with your friends or family. I know that we spent many holidays drinking our hot cocoa, eating cookies, and playing games. Those memories are the inspiration for today’s block.

Today, we’re going to make a Christmas pillow using the reverse-applique, raw-edge technique.

Building Blocks: Half Square Triangles

Hi fellow bakers! This is Mona from Kentucky Whittaker Creations. I’m glad to be back on Moda Bake Shop to share a fun technique with you.

I am not a fan of cutting individual pieces for a project. It never fails – I end up measuring incorrectly or my ruler slips or something else happens. I end up getting frustrated – and then sewing isn’t fun anymore! Because sewing is my sanity-saver and I want to enjoy what I’m doing, I’m always on the look out for new techniques to make cutting easier. This is one of those techniques!

Let’s make some half square triangles!
