At the Seashore – Sunset Over the Pacific

Welcome to the Pacific Coast!  I am fortunate to live just a few miles from the coast in Southern California and after a long hot day, my family and I often pack a picnic and head to the beach for a few hours of rest and relaxation.  We arrive just as the tourists are packing up, and nestle down in our beach chairs, shooing off the seagulls and watching the dolphins or seals swim in the water.

Our local beach is Point Dume in Malibu.  It’s quiet (for a Southern California beach!) and has the most perfect spot to sit and watch the sun set just beyond the point  into the Pacific Ocean.  Its truly breathtaking!

At the Seashore – Saltwater Taffy Quilt Setting

I absolutely love where I live.  I live about 15 miles due north of the Pacific Ocean in Southern California.  My house is nestled in a valley of the quiet Santa Monica Mountains, but I know the ocean in Malibu is a quick 20 min drive away.  The salty sea air and the whip of the wind bring me right back to my childhood growing up on the Atlantic Coast, splashing in the waves, building sand castles, and eating lots of salt water taffy.  When the sand hits my toes, I know that all will be right with the world and my frustrations melt away.  It’s our family’s go to place for sunset picnic celebrations (wrapped in quilts to keep warm!), tide pool adventuring and just relaxing while watching the local surfers catch the next big wave. At the Seashore – Sailing Flag Sampler

Welcome to the 2019 Moda Bake Shop At the Seashore Quilt Along! All summer we will be sewing 12” blocks with the goal of making a sampler quilt at the end of the summer. Unlike previous sew alongs, we decided to change things up a bit and show our setting options first. This allows you to plan ahead with your fabric purchases and lets you squeeze in filler blocks as you have time! So, grab your suntan lotion and sunglasses and join us at the shore!

Sailing Flag Sampler was inspired by the nautical flags you often see on boats, docks or marinas. I have always thought they look like tiny quilt blocks and knew right away I wanted to incorporate them into my design.

By using one charm pack and a little over a yard of background fabric, you will be able to create a festive wall hanging or table topper that looks great not only in the happy colors of April Rosenthal’s Mama’s Cottage, but soft and romantic in your favorite floral fabrics.
